Who is CP?

Circular Peninsula is a social enterprise supported by local businesses, community groups and local government on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria. We are micro-recycling hub that serves to educate and consult on plastic waste solutions.

We work alongside large-scale recyclers to identify plastic waste streams, recycle plastics and create products with a focus on good design and the built environment.

What is CP?

Circular Peninsula is the Mornington Peninsula's first decentralised circular economy hub for hard-to-recycle plastic. We work with the community to recycle plastic, educate, measure data and develop closed-loop solutions for a critical waste issue.

Why CP?

By now, everyone knows the staggering statistics of plastic waste in our natural environment. Our mission is to rescue and recycle macro plastics before they have the chance to become micro or nano plastics. Our goal is to create a scalable job-focussed social enterprise that provides employment for those experiencing disadvantage and barriers to employment here on the Mornington Peninsula and surrounds.

Plastic Solutions

Lid Rescue Project

  • Circular Peninsula’s Lid Rescue Project was created to empower our local communities to take action, reduce waste, and reimagine what plastic waste can become—one rescued plastic lid at a time.

We collect clean plastic lids with the resin codes #2 (HDPE), #4 (LDPE) and #5 (PP).

  • 100% free! This collection program is run by volunteers and is free for all pre-approved schools, kindergartens, businesses and community drop-off points.

Circular Plastic Project

  • Our paid Circular Plastic Project service is for the really BIG environmental impactors. Think plastic netting used in food and fibre production, soft plastic wrap - the list goes on.

Our fees cover consultation, collection and circular processing practices which benefit businesses, the community and our planet.

  • The first step of the process is to book in a free 1:1 initial consult. From there, our pricing varies depending on your waste stream solutions and the quantities you wish to divert from landfill. All paid plastic collections are charged by weight or volume, depending on plastic type.

Social enterprises must do three things:

    1. Have a defined primary social, cultural or environmental purpose consistent with a public or community benefit, and

    2. Derive a substantial portion of their income from trade, and

    3. Invest efforts and resources into their purpose such that public/community benefit outweighs private benefit.

  • Due to the many types of plastic out in the world, we serve our community best by focussing on identified plastic waste streams so that our end product is consistent for our clients.

There are some other great recyclers out there collecting other plastic waste streams. Be sure to check out TerraCycle and this blister pack recycling program by Pharmacycle as a starting point or check out our council’s recycling page for more!
